You Can Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

Posted by | Filed under Home Improvement | Nov 12, 2010 | 40 Comments

It does not matter which washers you happen to be operating, be it front load washing machines, the nice old top loading model or you desire to buy washing machine of the very up to date sort, you are able to make the laundry detergent on your own. You will find lots of recipes which might be obtained online that can assist you develop your individual brand laundry detergent as well as cleansing soap. The following is a proper laundry detergent recipe you might like to have a shot at. This amazing recipe uses the following items:

* 4 cups water
* 1/3 bar of inexpensive soap, grated
* 1/2 cup washing (not baking) soda
* 1/2 cup of Borax
* 5-gallon pail for mixing
* 3 gallons water

Position the four cups of water in to a soup pot or saucepan on low temperature, merge in the grated soap, and stir until dissolved. Add this particular blend to the other three gallons of water in a five-gallon bucket. Now blend in the Borax and cleansing soda and keep stirring until the fluid has thickened. Permit the actual blend settle for around twenty four hours and you have got your very own home model of washing detergent.

This soap works just as well as the store bought brand and you’ll have no problem getting your clothes clean. The quality of the wash is the same in both instances. This particular recipe costs about 2 cents per load compared to the average $.20 per load of a store bought detergent.

Making your own detergent is a to save money doing the wash and the only other choice would be to use no detergent at all. With a 90% savings, why not give this new detergent a try? You can make 3 gallons worth of detergent and it smells great.

In the event that you will not plan to create your personal cleansing soap, there does exist yet another choice. For softly soiled clothes, you can utilize one-half of the store purchased detergent you routinely make use of and you may find there’s no difference in how your garments get clean. When using the concentrated detergents available in the stores, making use of 50 percent of the detergent will not take away from their power to work. With the help of a tiny amount of detergent on softly soiled outfits give them the clean scent you want from your wash.

Thought Of The Day

When we have something in the house that need fixing most often we look to our local handyman to do the job. However there are some jobs that even the finest handyman cannot handle. Especially when the problems are focused and serious. For busted pipes a plumber should be consulted. For wiring that pose a hazard a good electrician should be hired and for complex wood workings what you need are carpentry specialists. A handyman is good only for minor fixes but for the major ones Better go with the proper professional to be safe.
Let’s look at the problems that concern wood working.

Ontario is so backwards that every step forward exposes another flaw in the electrical system. This smart meter has been used in Europe more than 10 years now and they hardly complained. Europeans are some of the most energy efficient consumers in the developed world. They have also had front load washing machines for more than 30 years, more efficient refridgerators, high efficiency light bulbs on street lights etc. Europe is also very competitive because of their efficient use of electricity. In Ontario we are energy hogs. I see people with thier airconditioning below 25 degrees, TVs and computers on all day, lights left on. I say stick it to ‘em. A high energy price is the only way to change this culture of waste! We should also start charging for not recycling garbage. It figures that a retired banker wrote this article. I wonder if his bank turned the lights out at night. The bank towers in Toronto sure don’t.

Are you saying we haven't learned anything in 3,500 years? Or as a wise old Jew once said:
(Ecclesiastes 1:9-14 NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. {10} Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. {11} There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow. {12} I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. {13} I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! {14} I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

But at least we have front load washing machines to lessen the load and some really good detergent with a nifty pouring spout!

The problem there with P.M Stuart is that I don't think he wants Sincklar so close under him. There are some senior party members who are very supportive of Sincklar becoming the next P.M so Stuart has to be wary of him. i think the P.M has more faith in Estwick , as both he and Estwick were strong supporters of Clyde Mascoll, I see stuart putting some breathing space between himself and Sincklar. It is said that had the lifespan of the late P.M was six months more, he would have made Sincklar his Deputy. This is a case of history repeating itself because it is also believed that twenty-four hours more of Errol Barrow the history of Barbados would have been different.

I find it amazing that you're able to come up with a review after just one bowl. More power to you.

Personally, I need at least 5-8 bowls before I can make an assessment of what the blend contains, and the rest of the tin to get the whole “picture” if you will.

The combination of this particular blend is interesting. I think I'll have to add that to the list of blends to try in the future.

    Keep up the good work.

You can use bleach and detergent at the same time BUT:

Only color-safe bleach can be used on colored clothing, otherwise, regular bleach can be used on whites. Bleach used on colored clothing of any kind (if it isn't color-safe bleach) will stain them horribly.

Separating the eggs. hmmm. I 'll give that a try if I think of it next time.

For some reason I thought baking powder has baking soda in it. I just checked. It does. mostly made up of baking soda.

Funny. I make the pancakes but I don't eat any. trying to keep that fourty pounds off!

Hi Nils, have you seen the Frisian rye that Weekendbakery do? Something different again, no yeast, no sourdough and then they bake it at a really low temperature. I am guessing because there is no 'live' part to the mix then the temperature can be low all the way through. I am really curious to try it and see how different it is from a leavened bread….

I totally get you.I will admit that several years ago, I went on a cleaning junket. I bought some new detergent that was to smell “spring fresh”. I washed all my bed linens, towels, washcloths, clothes in this stuff. A couple days later I noticed huge red splotches that totally freaked me out. ALL OVER ME. After rushing to the dr. thinking I’m dying—he informs me that I have had some sort of allergic reaction. “Contact dermatitis” It was awful and now I ONLY use ALL (the dermatologist tested one.) That is my story.

Only two-three degrees over actual, with the Surface Station Project in mind this could be one of the more accurate stations. :)

Am I recalling correctly that during the early part of last winter when a low temperature was recorded at an Illinois based station the response from the requisite agency was that the weather station would need to be checked for accuracy before the recording could be recognised as a low temperature record? With the above account it does seem to be one rule for the lows and another for the highs or am I just being cynical…

My husband and I watched Zefferelli’s Hamlet on Monday night, went to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s production yesterday afternoon, and topped it off with Brannagh last night. This trilogy issued an intense twenty-four hours.

Curiously OSF caused Hamlet and his father’s ghost to communicate through sign language. At first I thought this annoying, yet on later reflection I found it intriguing. Hamlet was the prophet, forced to translate his father’s words for us. Out of his own mouth he spoke, “O horrible, O horrible, most horrible! If thou has nature in thee, bear it not.”

I think he is making the same mistake as the guy claiming electricity would be to cheap to meter. Normally when things keep getting cheaper something happens to offset the downward trend. For electricity, home appliances, air conditioning, and then computers increased electrical demand by more then nuclear energy increased supply.

Also saying Google gives everything away for free is misleading. They give away the infrastructure in order to charge a toll to use it. We don't pay the toll, at least not directly. Advertisers pay the tolls. So unless advertising costs go to zero, which makes little sense, it will never truly be free.

It's mild and it's safe for babies skin. Just a suggestion incase you've never given that a thought

    1. Apparently this alternate future lacks the technology of air-conditioning, unless you are part of the elite Alien Tracker unit with your custom (and not at all conspicuous) mobile laboratory/arsenal. Thus all cops must look perpetually glistening.

    2. All LA cops refuse the standard-issue 9mm Glock pistols in favour of massive, individually customized, laser-sighted hand cannons that look like the recoil alone would snap your forearm.

I'd say it might work for some and not for others. You have people that love routines, go from home to work every day, do what they have to do and go back. On the other hand, you have those who have enough discipline to work on their own, accomplish their tasks independently from where they are.

Offices are labs of behavior control. Co-working spaces now are trending, but that is a complete different subject. Working teams can now do it from all over the world and accomplish tasks on time and budget.

I support the work at home model!

We made this dish 2 nights ago and I made it exactly as described and left the top on the pot on for the hour and took it off for the last half hour. I found it to be absolutely delcious and easy to make. I put all the chicken on a big platter and it was so nice to just pull the meat right off the bone. I then pour the sauce over the chicken. If your chicken is dry use a little more sauce from your pot. Amazing recipe. Thanks for posting. We are going to make this at least 2 times a month!

You can soften water by adding Calgon water softner. I don’t have to do this, but I’ve read on other sites people having this work. You can also use less soap or no soap at all. I wash diapers once every 3-4 days. I use 2 T Borax and 1 T Washing Soda. Of course I have to pre-rinse before laundering because they’re diapers, but they come out clean and smelling great!

(It had cedar chips in it and I didn't know it…kittehs often don't do well with cedar.) Your Sassafras may be allergic to a new detergent or cleaner you used, or something simple like that. It may be something you can easily correct at no expense. I hope it turns out to be a minor thing and that you both feel better soon!

First of all, I would not worry about your sister in-law. She sounds like a pain. Don't let it get to you. That being said, I am so sure it will be extra special for your parents knowing you baked the cake yourself!! That is a big task to undertake, and very, very sweet of you to do. And I am a firm believer that anything you do with love in your heart (for your parents) will turn out great!

Here is a recipe for a white sheet cake. (You will have to double it for two sheet cakes!) It also has a frosting recipe, but you could just as easily do it with butter cream. ALSO…my favorite filling for this cake is lemon curd…you can buy this already made, or I have included a recipe below, too. This is a very nice, moist cake recipe, and the lemon curd is a very elegant, light filling. You could garnish it with strawberries, as I have done in the past,

    WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE
    1 c. water
    1 c. butter
    2 c.+ 2 tbsp. sugar
    2 c. + 2 tbsp. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. sour cream
    1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. orange or lemon extract
1 tsp. orange or lemon rind, grated

    FROSTING:
    1/2 c. butter
    6 tbsp. milk
5 c. powdered sugar (or a little more)
    1/2 tsp. orange/lemon extract
    1 tsp. orange/lemon rind
    1 c. chopped nuts optional

Bring water for cake and butter to a boil in a medium sized pan. Remove from heat and add while hot the flour, sugar and salt mixture. Beat in eggs, sour cream and baking soda. Add orange or lemon rind and extract. Pour into a jelly roll pan or sheet cake pan and bake. MIX THIS CAKE BY HAND, DO NOT USE ELECTRIC MIXER.

To prepare frosting, boil butter and milk. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar. Add orange or lemon rind, extract and nuts. Frost cake while warm. Bake cake in 11"x14" pan at 375 degrees for 22 minutes.

LEMON CURD (by Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa!)

    Ingredients
    3 lemons
    1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 pound unsalted butter, room temperature
    4 extra-large eggs
1/2 cup lemon juice (3 to 4 lemons)
    1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
    Directions
Using a carrot peeler, remove the zest of 3 lemons, being careful to avoid the white pith. Put the zest in a food processor fitted with the steel blade. Add the sugar and pulse until the zest is very finely minced into the sugar.

Cream the butter and beat in the sugar and lemon mixture. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and then add the lemon juice and salt. Mix until combined.

Pour the mixture into a 2 quart saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened (about 10 minutes), stirring constantly. The lemon curd will thicken at about 170 degrees F, or just below simmer. Remove from the heat and cool or refrigerate.

Good luck! I am sure your cake will turn out lovely!
